Look at what Mrs. Kramer's 2nd Graders are up to now!

Homework

Reading Homework

With every minute spent reading, we believe second graders not only become better readers, but also enjoy reading more.  Here are our reading homework expectations:

*Students are expected to read at home for 15 or more minutes each night   with a goal of 20 or more nights each month.

*Record your child’s nightly reading on the monthly reading log. We have tried to make it very easy and quick.  You or your child can simply write the number of minutes  spent reading in one of the apples each night.  Reading logs can be kept  either in your child’s daily folder or in a safe place at home.

*Reading logs will be due on the first day of the new month.  The
log will also count for the Pizza Hut Book It Program.  No additional
papers will be needed to earn the certificates October-March.

    Tips For Helping:

~ You are encouraged to read with your child and talk with him/her about what was read.

~Please help us monitor the level of books that your child is reading.  No book leveling system is perfect and therefore your child may bring home some books that are easier than others.  Please refer to the back of this letter for an easy strategy to determine if a book is a good choice.

~ Your child may read good fit books from home or our school library. Each Friday he/she will check out 2 books that can be used for at home reading. If you do not have enough books at home or need help finding good fit books, please let me know.

To support reading acceleration, students should be reading books with about 98% accuracy for reading homework.  Another way to think about that is that they should be able to read 98 out of every 100 words without too much work.  Use our “5 Finger Rule” to determine if the book your child is reading is a good fit.

Math Homework

Math Homework will come home on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday each week. The homework is meant to be a practice of concepts introduced at school. It should not take long for your child to complete. If you are noticing your child is struggling with his/her homework, please let me know. Please sign the bottom of the page after 'Checked By' to indicate that you have looked over the homework page with your child. Please be sure all math homework is returned by Friday.

Students that show responsibility to complete and return math and reading homework will be able to participate in a Fun Friday activity.
