Is Oobleck a Liquid or a Solid?

We have been studying the properties of matter in science. We are scientists that ask questions, form  a hypothesis, conduct experiments, observe and record results, and draw conclusions. With oobleck, we questioned, 'What is this mystery substance? Is it a solid? or Is is a liquid?"
Here is the recipe in case you would like to make more at home:

Book Fair Next Week

Jamestown's Scholastic Book Fair is right around the corner! The fair will be open for business October 1, 2, and 3. During this year's book fair we are conducting a "Michigan vs. Michigan State" competition. We will have two jars setup at the book fair, one for Michigan and one for State. Students can put their book fair change (coins only) in their favorite team's jar. They may also bring loose change from home to support their favorite team!
On Monday, whichever jar has the most money - Mrs. DeGroot will be dressed in that team's colors for the entire day! All money collected will go toward new books for the school. So let's have some fun and may the best team win!

First Day of School

We had a great first day of school. In the morning, we sang the song 'We Are Ready for the First Day of School!' We also read a book called the First Day Jitters. We talked about how it is okay to feel jittery, nervous, and/or excited the first day of school. We drank Jitter Juice and talked about the highlights of our day. We also read a book called The Crayon Box that Talked and decorated our own crayons. We connected that we are like crayons and each bring something unique to our classroom or the box. We developed a class promise that we will follow throughout the year. We had fun playing several get-to-know-you games as well. Here are some pictures of the kids on the first day of 2nd grade.
